By sharing their own stories, they are speaking out for the hundreds of thousands of people who, each year, for hundreds of thousands of reasons, choose to have an abortion. Abortion patients are your neighbors, your friends, your colleagues, and yes, even your elected officials. Below, in their own words, they discuss why abortion rights are so essential. I was 17 years old when I got pregnant. We started off just talking, and the next thing I knew, he was above me. I really don’t know what’s going on. Did I say something wrong? I remember just lying there. A few weeks later, I found out I was pregnant. I was able to go to the Yellow Pages and call; I don’t have to jump through hoops or anything. When I attend my own counseling session, I will never forget how I was treated. I will never forget the saying, “If you don’t do this, you will get benefits.” I just remember feeling so much pain, and I didn’t know what to do. I feel very lonely, but I have the choice to make the decision to continue or not. I made the best decision for myself, because my spirit and emotions were not in a good place. It changed my life, as it gave me the space to take care of Cori first.
